Heading to Memphis
It is almost 7:30 am and I have about 2 hours before I have to head to LAX and then on to Memphis. In about 12 hours, I shall be having dry ribs and sweet tea on the Mississippi -- wow, can't wait.
The conference I am heading to is one of the nicest -- yet most interesting -- conferences I have presented at. It is only in its 3rd year -- and I have presented at each (well, grins, one time I presented virtually because I had jury duty!)
This is what they have posted on their conference website --
The 4th annual Laptop Institute is days away and preparations are well underway! Over 450 teachers, techies, and administrators from 36 states and 6 countries are joining us July 16-19 for the 4th annual Laptop Institute. With 80+ sessions, including hands-on labs from Gateway, Apple, Microsoft, and DyKnow, as well as exhibits from 30+ vendors, this promises to be the most successful and exciting conference yet!
What is truly interesting to me is -- and forgive me Lorrie, I am not meaning to be rude -- is how do people find out about this conference and what makes them want to travel to Memphis when two weeks ago, they could have been in San Diego at NECC?
So -- grins -- I will tell you some important perks of this conference -- which makes it even better than NECC.
#1 -- It is all inclusive. They provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. Which creates great communication opportunities.
#2 -- The classes are small yet good. There is plenty of one on one instead of one of thousands.
#3 -- It is in a beautiful setting on one campus. No need to bus to another campus or walk a 1/4 mile exhibit hall.
#4 -- They keynotes are pretty impressive for such a small conference -- David Warlick and Pamela Livingston.
#5 --They care, they truly care. Both Lorrie and Stuart really want your thoughts, your ideas, and your suggestions. And you don't have to fill out a card to let them know -- you can sit down with them at lunch and chat.
#6 -- It is wireless.
#7 -- The doorprizes are pretty impressive.
#8 -- The Tennessee accents are fantastic. (grins)
The Lausanne Laptop conference is just the winddown you need after the huge NECC. Yes, I did learn a great deal at NECC. In fact, I am still sifting through it all. But the NECC is immense and I am looking forward to spending the next 4 days in a more intimate setting.
If it is anything like the last two years -- it will be the best week I have all summer.
