Home Again -- Home Again
Well, it has been an interesting week -- I love Tennessee...the rolling roads, the trees, the food, the history, the people -- but it is sooooo good to be home. So Good!!!
The Laptop Institute was interesting and as always, a very nice place to spend a summer vacation!!
I mentioned in a previous blog that I was going to speak a bit about Windows Vista -- so (grins) here goes.......
I both Love it and Hate it.
Though they hate to admit it -- it is very Mac-ish, which is quite nice. Since I live in both tech worlds, I don't mind the simalarities and it might do them both a bit of good to stop harping on differences and applauding similarities. (sighs -- I am already on the soapbox)
I hate that the minimum ram is 512. Way too much!!!
I like the new look of the desktop and the icons.
I like that windows open transparently over other windows.
I like that is has a dashboard-like program called Gadgets (or it might be Gidgets)
I like that it has a powerful search tool.
I hate that they made it think ahead for you instead of letting you have control.
I found it interesting -- and this is just my view -- that the little start icon looks a lot like the spinning timer on a Mac.
Will I go to Vista -- probably -- because it is powerful. But I won't go as willingly and eagerly as I did with Win XP.
I also had time to play with PP, Excel, Word, and Access. Though the programs performance has not changed a great deal -- (with the exception of removing the ability to STACK in Excel which I think was a bad choice) -- the software look has changed. I, myself, am a drop down list person more than icons and you will have to love icons to use this software.
When you click on a tool bar option -- the icons that go with that option suddenly appear. It took me -- no lie -- 5 minutes to figure out how to do a Chart Wizard because it wasn't on the toolbar. And when I finally found it -- instead of one icon -- it is now 4 or 5.
Here is a sample --

My opinion of both Vista and Office 2007 -- bloated.
Good -- and probably going to be popular -- but very bloated.
and -- come on guys -- admit it -- very Macish. And again, I have NO problem at all with that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
grins --
looks like I am back in California with a ready opinion.
